Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) is activated carbon in the form of hard granules, manufactured from coconut shell, coal or wood. It is packed into fixed-bed filters and columns: water or air flows through the bed and contaminants are held in the carbon’s pores.
GAC lasts a long time in service, keeps pressure drop low and can be thermally reactivated for further use, which helps keep running costs down.

Choosing the right grade
GAC is specified by raw material, mesh size (for example 8×30 or 12×40), iodine number, hardness, ash and apparent density. Finer mesh sizes adsorb faster, while coarser sizes give lower pressure drop.
