Impregnated activated carbon is activated carbon treated with chemical agents such as potassium iodide, potassium permanganate, sulfur, phosphoric acid or metal oxides. The impregnant reacts with gases and vapors that ordinary activated carbon holds only weakly.
It is used where specific, often toxic, contaminants must be removed at low concentrations. Grades are available on coconut shell, coal and wood bases.
Key properties
- Removes low-concentration toxic gases
- Chemical reaction as well as adsorption
- Wide range of impregnants and base carbons
- Long service life
Applications in India
- Air purification of acid gases, ammonia, amines and sulfur compounds
- HVAC and cleanrooms in hospitals, laboratories and pharma plants
- Gas masks and respirators
- Odor control in wastewater treatment
- Gold and metal refining
Common impregnated grades
- KI impregnated carbon: for mercury vapor.
- KOH or NaOH impregnated carbon: for acid gases such as H₂S, SO₂ and NOx.
- Catalytic and sulfur-loaded carbons: see FM CATALO and FM THIOVA on our products page.
Need a grade for another gas? Tell us the gas, its concentration and the air flow, and we will advise.
Choosing the right grade
The impregnant is chosen for the target gas. The base carbon, particle form and impregnation level are then matched to your air flow, contact time and the concentration you need to reach.
Send us your application, your current specification if you have one, the quantity you need and your delivery location. Our team will recommend a grade and share its technical data sheet with your quote.
