We manufacture activated carbon in India from three raw materials and supply it in four main forms. The right combination depends on what you need to remove, what you are treating and the type of system you run.
By raw material
Coconut Shell Activated Carbon
Very hard, low in dust and rich in micropores. Best for small molecules: drinking water, gold recovery, air purification and food.
Coal-Based Activated Carbon
A wide range of pore sizes and good mechanical strength at a competitive cost. Suited to wastewater and industrial filtration.
Wood-Based Activated Carbon
A more open pore structure for large molecules. Widely used for decolorization in food, pharmaceutical and chemical processing.
By form
Granular Activated Carbon (GAC)
Granules for fixed-bed filters and columns in water, air and process treatment.
Powdered Activated Carbon (PAC)
Fine powder dosed directly into liquids for fast adsorption in batch processes.
Pelletized Activated Carbon
Extruded cylindrical pellets with low pressure drop for air and gas treatment.
Impregnated Activated Carbon
Chemically treated carbon for specific gases such as H₂S, ammonia and mercury.
Gold Recovery Carbon
Hard, high-density coconut shell carbon for CIL and CIP gold extraction.
Specialty product lines
First Molecule also offers engineered carbons for specific challenges. Ask our India team about availability for your project.
FM CLARO
Food-grade powdered activated carbon for decolorizing sugar, juices and edible oils.
FM OLEO
Activated carbons for treating edible, industrial and transformer oils.
FM AURA
Granular carbon for air treatment, capturing VOCs, H₂S and odors in air filtration systems.
FM CATALO
Catalytic carbon that chemically converts difficult gases such as H₂S and ammonia.
FM THIOVA
Sulfur-loaded carbons for removing mercury, mercaptans and other sulfur compounds.
FM FLURO
Specialized pellets for fluoride compounds in gas streams and for PFAS removal.
FM TERRA
Engineered carbons for soil and sediment remediation.
How activated carbon grades are compared
Grades are usually specified by a few key parameters. Knowing them makes it easier to compare suppliers and to replace a grade you already use.
- Iodine number: a measure of adsorption of small molecules.
- Methylene blue value: adsorption of medium and larger molecules, useful for decolorization.
- Particle size or mesh: for example 8×30 or 12×40 for granules, or the fineness of a powder.
- Hardness: resistance to wear, important for filter beds and gold recovery.
- Ash and moisture: the non-carbon and water content of the product.
- Apparent density: how much carbon fits in a given filter volume.
Share your current specification or simply describe your application, and we will match a grade and send its technical data sheet.
