Pelletized, or extruded, activated carbon (EAC) is formed into uniform cylindrical pellets, typically 1 to 4 mm in diameter, from coal, coconut shell or wood. The regular shape lets air and gas flow evenly through the bed with a low pressure drop.
High strength and low dust make pellets ideal for industrial air and gas treatment, where the carbon has to withstand high flow rates for long periods.

Pellets are specified by diameter, activity (often measured as CTC or butane activity for gas-phase use), hardness and, where needed, the type of impregnation.
